Continuing to reduce cash losses on unprofitable lines, the Japanese company NEC announced its intention to soon stop production and sale of its personal computers in the Asia-Pacific region. Making this decision is expected in the life of this summer, at the very beginning of the third quarter.
Note earlier NEC has already announced withdrawal from the markets of Europe, Africa and the Middle East. This is part of its overall strategy to concentrate its efforts and resources in a profitable business. As a result, NEC will continue to produce computers only at home in Japan, where its position in this segment are traditionally strong.
The decision of NEC to reduce the development of this area is understandable. Because the light at the end of the tunnel on the PC market has not yet been seen - it does not only undermine global economic crisis that has affected many industries, but also a shift in demand towards the cost of compact systems, such as nettopy, and laptops are gaining popularity at the expense of lowering their prices .
