From Sun Microsystems has announced the release of MySQL 5. 4, a new version of the most popular databases in the world of open source software, which allows to significantly improve productivity and increase the ability to scale applications MySQL. A preliminary version of MySQL 5. 4 is already available for download. In MySQL 5. 4 held a number of new functions of the enterprise, and major changes, including:
The increased level of scalability - this will allow for the use of the InnoDB data storage subsystems all possible servers x86, containing up to 16 processor cores, and servers, CMT, containing up to 64 processor cores. This is more than twice the prior opportunities.
Optimizing subqueries - in order to increase the analytical queries, since the execution of some subqueries are now represented only a fraction of a second compared with the time that is spent on these transactions in the previous versions of MySQL.
New algorithms perform queries - use system memory allows faster execution of parallel operations, JOIN, especially in the MySQL Cluster, through the minimization of the exchange of data between the server and the cluster nodes.
Improved stored procedures - more robust error management functions provided through the SIGNAL/RESIGNAL. Now, applications can be confident to use stored procedures to implement business logic.
Improved prepared instructions (prepared statements) - are now supported by the instruction output parameters, which increases their functionality.
Improved Reporting Scheme - provides better access to metadata describing the types of parameters and return values of stored procedures. Developers that use interfaces such as ODBC and JDBC, will now be available much more information.
Improved support for DTrace - improved diagnosis and troubleshooting of MySQL when run on the Solaris.
MySQL 5. 4 will support a wide range of hardware and software platforms, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SuSE Enterprise Linux, Microsoft Windows, Sun Solaris 10 operating system, Mac OS X, Free BSD, HP-UX, IBM AIX, IBM i5/OS and other popular distributions Linux. The expected release date publicly available version will be named later this year based on an analysis of comments and proposals by community.
