The company Verbatim America LLC in conjunction with its parent company Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM) has announced intentions in May this year to begin deliveries of the new optical media UDO2 (Ultra Density Optical ) write-once (Write Once, Read Many), the capacity reaches 60 gigabytes.
In signing the license agreement with Alliance Storage Technologies, MKM will begin production of new CDs in the current month at its plant in Mitsushime (Japan). The company is engaged in production of UDO-holders at the plant since 2004. It currently produces in Mitsushime UDO1-disc capacity of 30 GB, and rewritable media. Dubbed UDO2-the capacity of 60 GB drives MKM plans to start production in June.
New items are not only twice as larger capacity, but also other advanced features. For example, if the maximum speed of the disc UDO1 is 8 Mb/s, then for UDO2 this figure increased by 50% - up to 12 Mbps.
